TIPS ON FINDING YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHERThere are a couple of things I believe need mentioning and which are
really crucial in your search for your wedding photographer. There are the
obvious ones, i.e. Quality, pricing and style. but in order to compare apples
with apples ask every photographer the following 6 question. This will give
you a true comparison! 1. How many photographers will I have on the day? I.e.
if something were to happened to the photographer, what is the backup plan?
2. What kind of equipment is being used to capture my images?
I.e. commercial quality SLR cameras (film or digital?) 3. NB!! Do you as the photographer have backup equipment???
And if so, is it close by and not tucked away in a bag. Cameras are just
pieces of technology and they DO malfunction, so make sure there is a spare
one handy as to not miss that crucial moment!! 4. Do you have enough memory or film? The last thing
you want them to do is to become stingy when they shoot as to not run out
of either. In our case we can shoot over 1000 High quality (RAW) images. 5. Do you as the photographer back up or archive my images?
I.e. If they are burgled or they lose your images before you receive your
prints and/or disc, do they make multiple backups which they can revert
back to? 6. How long after the wedding will I receive my photos???
I'm afraid I've heard some horror stories here - couples often only getting
their album 6 MONTHS after the wedding! We will deliver your disc to you
upon your return from honeymoon (providing it's at least 1 week :) From
this disc you will make your selection for your album. Once we have received
your selection is will take no more than two weeks for a regular album.
'Storybook' albums might take a tad longer depending on how long we take
to finalise your templates. These are custom-made and will be mailed to
you for your approval before we sent them to the printers. Lastly, make a point of meeting with your prospective photographer before
actually booking them. You often get a better 'feel' for a person when you
meet them in person. The fact that you get along with your photographer
will show in your images whereas the opposite will cause unnecessary tension
on the day and MOST DEFINATELY cause your images to look strained and forced!
Trust me on that one :) Some exciting news on our side! In 2009 & 2010 we were blessed enough
to win awards in the WEDDING category at the annual Sony Profoto Awards!!
The contest is held at professional level & in association with the PPSA
(Professional Photographers of South Africa). ABOUT KAY PHOTOGRAPHY’S STYLE As you may have noticed our style is very photo-journalistic, capturing
moments and emotions rather than posing people – we feel too much posing
results in uncomfortable and stiff looking photos which doesn’t really do
the day much justice. We remove ourselves from your environment using telephoto
lenses as to not have you focus on us the whole time, but rather on each
other. This allows you to enjoy your day and each other and results in more
natural looking photos. Some exciting news!! This year we were blessed enough to win an award
in the WEDDING category at the annual Sony Profoto Awards!! This contest
is held at professional level and in association with the PPSA (Professional
Photographers of South Africa). Well, now that you’re armed with some questions and a better
idea of what to expect, good luck with your search!
